Linden Blossom: The Scent of Childhood Summers

If I had to choose one of my most nostalgic summer scents, it would be linden blossom. It’s deeply tied to my childhood. My grandparents had two huge linden trees on their farm, where my brother, sister, and I spent weeks every summer without our parents. Those days were full of freedom, boredom, imagination, no screens, and barely any TV. It was just long, lazy days, enjoying the moment.
When we knew our parents were coming to pick us up for the “real” holiday, we would climb those linden trees and look far away to the road for our parents’ orange LADA. Maybe it was the excitement of seeing them again, or the feeling that adventure was about to begin, mixed with that intoxicating scent of linden: sweet, green, powdery, honeyed, that made it so unforgettable to me.
I can’t say D'Orsay’s Vouloir Être Ailleurs fully captures a true linden blossom scent. I find it a bit too green and powdery compared to the linden blossom I recall. But this scent still carries the same nostalgic feeling. “Vouloir être ailleurs” means wanting to be somewhere else. That is exactly what Linden Blossom does to me. It takes me back to a carefree childhood filled with endless dreaming, lazy boredom, all the time in the world, and that beautiful feeling that life was only just beginning.
